PARADE ENTRY GUIDELINES:
In keeping with the veteran theme of this national observance, our philosophy is to give entrant preference to:
- Veteran-related organizations and veteran participants of all of America's wars, including auxiliaries and sons and daughters of these organizations;
- Patriotic organizations such as those with congressional, national, state, or local charters;
- All military units;
- Public and private school marching bands and their Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps;
- Parade-specific entries, such as clowns, stilt-walkers, etc., with a veteran affiliation;
- As space permits, we welcome application entries from public agencies and civic, cultural, and non-profit organizations that request entry for the purpose of honoring our nation’s veterans.
PARADE RULES:
- Participants are asked to strictly adhere to parade day instructions. Schedule times provided to participating groups for set up are mandatory to ensure that the parade will start on time.
- Participants must go to their assigned starting lineup location. No group will be allowed to start from any other space than the one assigned to them.
- Parade participants are not permitted to throw any objects into the crowd. This includes, but is not limited to: candy, toys, beads, etc. Any participant doing so may be excused from the parade.
- For-profit or commercial interests are not permitted in the parade without prior written approval of the City of Jacksonville Division of Sports & Entertainment. If any logo or references to any organization other than that which is listed on this application are displayed at the parade, a $2,000 penalty charge will be invoiced to the organization for a sponsorship fee.
- Participants are not permitted to stop the parade to perform. This includes special band performances, ROTC units, and dance troupes.
- Corporations or businesses are not permitted in the parade, unless the City of Jacksonville Division of Sports & Entertainment has an approved 2023 corporate partnership parade application on file.
- Parade participants are not permitted to possess, display, or throw any object(s) that may include fire, steam, or any other hazardous items/material during the parade.
A participating organization/individual may be either temporarily suspended or permanently revoked if it/he or she is deemed negligent of any of the rules and guidelines. Additionally, temporary or permanent revocation may occur if ANYONE (vendor, sponsor, partner, etc.) is observed under the influence of a controlled or uncontrolled substance, is abusive or rude to citizens, is uncooperative to event personnel, creates a disturbance, and/or displays conduct which would poorly reflect on the image of the event and event organizers.
RELEASE & WAIVER OF LIABILITY:
All participants (adult and minor) are required to execute (parent or legal guardian must execute on behalf of minor) a Release and Waiver of Liability form. It is the organization’s responsibility to collect these waivers prior to the event and to retain the waivers for a period of no less than five (5) years from the date of the event. Do not submit waivers to the City of Jacksonville.
